I'm curious about other people's experiences here because about a year ago I switched from a Nokia phone and separate Palmpilot, to an O2 Atom smartphone that combines a phone and a PDA in one device.
The upside is that I now only have one device which I synchronise to my PC so I always have a current calendar and current contact list no matter where I'm working. It also has internet access, although because it's only a 2G device and I'm with Telstra, it costs a bomb to connect and get even a simple email so I rarely use that functionality.
The downside is that the O2 uses Windows Mobile as the operating system, and after using a Palmpilot for 10 years, I've had to give up on all my old favourite Palm applications and find new similar Windows Mobile applications, and almost always these cost money, whereas the Palm applications were nearly always free.
So basically, I've lost some functionality and gained some functionality, and I'm sort of happy but not 100% happy. I actually did look at smartphones with a Palm OS (ie. like the Treo) but they had other features that I would have missed even more so I ended up not going with that. But I'm tempted every week to revisit that...
Any other opinions or suggestions? Cheers, Nicky
